Dindigul, Aug 26: In a tragic incident near Natham, Dindigul district, an illegal firecracker manufacturing unit in Avichipatti led to the death of two individuals due to a deadly explosion.
Selvam, 48, was reportedly involved in the unauthorized production of country-made explosives and rock-blasting materials. Early in the morning at around 3:00 AM, Chinnan and Muneeswaran, both from Thiruthangal, Virudhunagar district, were engaged in manufacturing the explosives when a sudden blast occurred, resulting in their bodies being blown apart.
The incident was reported to the police, following which ATS DSP Murugesan, RDO Balpandi, and Tahsildar Saravanakumar inspected the site. Natham police have launched an investigation into the incident.
Further details revealed that the explosion actually occurred the previous day at 3:30 PM in the same firecracker unit. The owner of the unit reportedly collected the dismembered body parts of the victims and placed them in a sack. It is alleged that the owner attempted to cover up the incident by offering money to the victims’ families, aiming to keep the matter from becoming public.
Additionally, reports indicate that several workers managed to escape the factory during the explosion, avoiding injury or death.
The Natham police are currently interrogating the owner of the firecracker unit.
In response to the incident, compensation of âč3 lakh has been announced for the families of the deceased. Similarly, in another firecracker factory explosion that occurred the previous day in Thiruvalangadu near Kuthalam, Mayiladuthurai district, two workersâKarnan and Lakshmananâlost their lives. The families of these victims were also granted a compensation of âč3 lakh each.
