The Chennai Meteorological Department has forecasted moderate rainfall in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry from today until September 6.

Senthamarai Kannan, Director of the Chennai Meteorological Center, stated that a low-pressure area over the central-west and adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal intensified into a well-marked low-pressure area around 5:30 AM yesterday. It moved in a north-northwest direction and crossed the coast near Kalingapatnam between Visakhapatnam and Gopalpur around midnight last night.

For today and tomorrow, light to moderate rain accompanied by thunder and lightning is expected in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal regions. Strong surface winds of 30-40 km/h are likely to blow across the northern districts.

From September 3 to 6, light to moderate rain is expected in isolated areas of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal.

In Chennai, the sky will remain cloudy for the next 24 hours, with the possibility of moderate rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning in some parts of the city.

Over the past 24 hours, the highest rainfall was recorded at 9 cm in Kozhiporvilai, Kanyakumari district, and Solaiyar, Coimbatore district. Other notable rainfall measurements include 7 cm in Mayiladi, Mambalathuraiyaru, and Anaikettan in Kanyakumari district, and 6 cm in Thakkalai and Avadi in Thiruvallur district.

This was reported in a statement released by the department.
