Chennai residents can look forward to pleasant weather in the coming days, as meteorologists forecast cool evenings and possible isolated rainfall. According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), light to moderate rainfall is expected over the next two days, which could help bring down daytime temperatures. The city is likely to experience cloudiness during the day, contributing to the cooler weather.
Senthamarai Kannan, Director of the Regional Weather Forecasting Centre, noted that the weather conditions are being influenced by a developing low-pressure system over the west-central Bay of Bengal near the Odisha coast. This system is expected to merge with a cyclonic circulation currently persisting over coastal Andhra Pradesh, which could lead to isolated rainfall in the region.
“There may be some isolated spells over the next one or two days. If there is no cloudiness during the day, temperatures might fluctuate by one or two degrees,” Kannan said.
Earlier this week, widespread rainfall left Chennai drenched, with 4 cm of rain recorded at the Nungambakkam observatory and 1 cm at Meenambakkam. Since June 1, the city has received 49 cm of rainfall, which is 52% above the normal levels for this period.
Weather blogger Pradeep commented on the current conditions, explaining that higher cloudiness in the atmosphere could help lower temperatures, though it may clear by evening. He added that the rainfall over the next few days is unlikely to be as widespread as it was earlier this week but could still bring relief from the heat.
