Former minister and AIADMK organizing secretary D. Jayakumar has strongly rebuked DMK organizing secretary R. S. Bharathi for his recent comments targeting AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami (EPS). Bharathi had referred to EPS as “blind,” accusing him of being oblivious to the developments in Tamil Nadu.
In a statement, Jayakumar condemned the ruling DMK for using Bharathi to attack the Leader of the Opposition, Palaniswami. He argued that it was inappropriate to suppress the voice of EPS, who had merely expressed public concerns regarding Chief Minister M. K. Stalin’s visit to the United States. The Chief Minister is currently abroad, aiming to attract foreign investments to the state.
Jayakumar also criticized Bharathi for his insensitive remarks, stating, “DMK functionary Bharathi has humiliated the visually challenged with his statement.”
The controversy stems from Palaniswami’s comments questioning whether Stalin’s US trip was for medical treatment. In response, Bharathi described EPS as “blind,” citing that the CM was seen cycling in the US, appearing healthy and fit.
Moreover, Palaniswami had demanded that the Chief Minister publish a white paper detailing the investments and job opportunities generated from his international trips to Dubai, Singapore, Japan, Spain, and the US. Jayakumar expressed frustration that instead of addressing this demand, the DMK resorted to personal attacks.
Jayakumar urged Bharathi to consult with the Chief Minister and State Industries Minister T. R. B. Raaja to provide transparency on the investments secured through the Global Investors Meet and other foreign visits. “Even if they fail to do so, the truth will come to light one day,” Jayakumar concluded, emphasizing the need for accountability and transparency from the ruling party.
