A devastating fire at a women’s hostel near Periyar Bus Stand in the Kattarapalayam area of Madurai has claimed the lives of two school teachers, leaving the community in shock.The fire broke out in the early hours of the morning, while over 40 women were staying in the hostel. Tragically, two school teachers, Parimalam and Saranya, lost their lives in the incident. Five other women sustained severe injuries.
The hostel’s warden, who also suffered serious injuries, was immediately rushed to the hospital. Police quickly arrived at the scene and safely evacuated all the residents. A detailed count of the hostel occupants has been conducted, and an investigation is underway to determine the cause of the fire.
Preliminary investigations by the police suggest that the fire spread rapidly due to an explosion in a refrigerator. Additionally, the heavy smoke caused by the fire led to respiratory difficulties for four women.
Police have registered a case and are continuing to investigate the exact cause of the fire. The tragedy has left many mourning the loss of the two teachers and has raised concerns about safety standards in such hostels.
