Chennai Mayor R Priya has inaugurated a comprehensive master health check-up initiative for over 11,000 sanitary workers at Government Stanley Hospital. The program aims to ensure the health and well-being of these essential workers, offering extensive medical examinations over the next three months.
The check-ups will cover a wide range of tests, including screenings for thyroid issues, diabetes, and cervical cancer for women above 35. In total, 14 tests will be provided. The initiative will be conducted across five government hospitals to ensure maximum accessibility and effectiveness. Medications will be made available to those in need under the Makkalai Thedi Maruthuvam scheme.
During the launch, Mayor Priya also reported significant progress in the city’s efforts to control dengue. Only 12 dengue cases were reported this month, marking a substantial drop from 87 cases in September 2023. This reduction is seen as a direct result of intensified public health measures and awareness campaigns.
In addition to the health initiative, Mayor Priya provided updates on key infrastructure projects. She noted that 80% of the stormwater drain construction in the Kosasthalaiyar River area is now complete, aiming to mitigate the risks of flooding in vulnerable parts of the city.
Furthermore, multi-level parking projects are progressing well, a vital component of the city’s efforts to address growing traffic congestion.
