The Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) has registered a case against former AIADMK minister and sitting MLA SP Velumani, along with 10 officials of the Greater Chennai Corporation, over alleged irregularities in awarding tenders for stormwater drain construction and road relaying projects in 2018.The case centers on accusations that Velumani, who was then the Minister for Municipal Administration, Rural Development, and Special Projects, was involved in manipulating tenders for civic projects. The tenders in question pertain to contracts awarded for stormwater drain construction and road relaying works executed by the Greater Chennai Corporation.
The DVAC’s investigation found evidence of irregularities in the tender process, suggesting favoritism towards certain contractors. The alleged manipulation of these public works projects led to the registration of a case against Velumani and the 10 corporation officials.
This latest move marks a significant step in the ongoing probe into the former minister’s tenure, with the DVAC intensifying its scrutiny of potential misuse of power and corruption. Velumani has faced similar allegations in the past, though he has consistently denied any wrongdoing.
