The Secretary of the School Education Department, Madhumathi, has issued an order for the immediate demolition of unused school buildings, instructing Chief Educational Officers to take action in collaboration with school management committees. An inspection meeting with district Chief Educational Officers was held yesterday at the Chennai DPI campus. During this meeting, Secretary Madhumathi outlined several key directives:
Aadhaar Registration: All government school students must complete the registration of their Aadhaar numbers by December. For students without a savings account, immediate steps should be taken to open one either at a bank or a post office.
Demolition of Unsafe Buildings: With the onset of the monsoon season, the Secretary emphasized the need to demolish buildings that are in hazardous or unusable conditions within schools. This action is necessary to prevent any untoward incidents.
Collaboration with School Management Committees: Decisions regarding the demolition must be carried out in partnership with the school management committees, and the Public Works Department is to be engaged to execute the necessary measures.
This proactive approach by the government aims to ensure the safety of students and staff in schools, particularly with adverse weather conditions approaching. The focus on completing Aadhaar registrations further highlights the government’s commitment to streamlining educational processes and ensuring that all students have access to necessary resources.
