BJP Tamil Nadu State Spokesperson ANS Prasad has emphasized the need for the Tamil Nadu government to provide human resource development training for police officers across the state, urging them to act as “friends of the people.” Following recent incidents where police clashed with two intoxicated individuals, Prasad stressed that these altercations undermine the dignity and honor of the police force and called for severe punishment for those responsible.Prasad stated, âThe police must refrain from intimidating the public in public spaces, especially youth and women. The government must curb the trend of police mistreating individuals simply for being under the influence of alcohol. Law-abiding citizens should not be humiliated for consuming alcohol legally.â
He further urged the government to take a balanced approach, ensuring that those who disrespect the police, often under the influence of power or alcohol, face strict legal consequences. âIndividuals who believe they can mistreat or insult police officers should be held accountable under the law, and this should be a lesson for all,â Prasad added.
In conclusion, he reiterated the importance of fostering a strong relationship between the public and police, ensuring respectful treatment for all citizens visiting police stations.
