In a significant move to enhance educational facilities in Tamil Nadu, the School Education Department, in collaboration with the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD), has approved a substantial allocation of Rs 745 crore for infrastructure development in 440 government high and higher secondary schools. This initiative falls under the Rural Infrastructure Development Fund (RIDF) for the 2024-25 academic year.
The funding aims to significantly improve essential infrastructure in schools, ensuring a conducive learning environment for students. The sanctioned amount will be utilized for a range of improvements, including the construction of better classrooms, well-equipped science laboratories, gender-segregated toilets, adequate drinking water facilities, and secure compound walls.
The implementation of this initiative follows a collaborative funding model, with NABARD and the State government sharing the costs in an 85:15 ratio. This partnership underscores the commitment of both entities to bolster educational infrastructure in rural areas, where such facilities are often lacking.
According to the notification released by the School Education Department, the funds will be directed toward the development of classrooms, laboratories, toilets for both boys and girls, and drinking water facilities across various schools in the state. Additionally, compound walls are included in the infrastructure enhancement scheme, which aims to create safer and more secure environments for students.
As part of this ambitious initiative, 36 different projects will be executed across various districts, reflecting the government’s focus on comprehensive educational reform and infrastructure development. The effort not only seeks to improve physical facilities but also aims to elevate the overall quality of education provided to students in government schools.
This significant financial investment in school infrastructure is expected to have a positive impact on students’ learning experiences, contributing to better educational outcomes in Tamil Nadu’s government schools. By enhancing the quality of facilities, the government aims to foster an environment that supports academic success and personal growth for students.
