The Cyber Crime Prevention Unit of the police is currently investigating an incident involving the temporary disabling of the WhatsApp account of Sri Lanka’s Deputy Consul in Chennai.
The Sri Lankan Deputy Consulate is located in Nungambakkam, Chennai, with Dr. Thuraissamy Venkateswaran serving as the Deputy Consul. Dr. Venkateswaran hails from Udayanatham village in the Ariyalur district.
On the evening of two days ago, at around 7:00 p.m., unknown individuals allegedly disabled the Deputy Consul’s WhatsApp account. The account remained inaccessible until it was restored at approximately 10:00 a.m. the following morning.
Concerns have been raised that these unknown individuals might have tampered with or stolen information stored within the account.
Dr. Thuraissamy Venkateswaran has filed a formal complaint with the Cyber Crime Prevention Unit of the Chennai Eastern Division police station. The investigation is underway to identify the individuals responsible for the unauthorized access and to determine the nature of any potential data breach.
