In an event that has sparked significant political curiosity, VCK (Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi) leader Thol Thirumavalavan confirmed that he would share the stage with actor-politician Vijay at a book release function on December 6 in Chennai. The event, set to commemorate the death anniversary of Dr. BR Ambedkar, is being closely watched due to its potential political implications.
Thirumavalavan, who secured victory in the last Lok Sabha election as an ally of the DMK and the INDIA bloc, clarified that his presence at the event should not be interpreted as a shift in political allegiance. He firmly stated that he remains committed to the current alliance.
The anticipation surrounding the event intensified after Vijay, who launched the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) party earlier this year, announced his participation. Notably, during TVK’s first State conference held late last month, Vijay extended an offer of power-sharing to potential allies – an offer that echoed the VCK’s long-standing aspirations.
In this context, the decision of both leaders to appear together has fueled speculation, despite Thirumavalavan’s repeated assertions that his participation has no underlying political motives. “The imputation of political motive to a book release event is shocking,” he stated, emphasizing that the event’s nature is purely commemorative.
Thirumavalavan disclosed that the original plan for the event had Chief Minister and DMK president MK Stalin set to release the book, with him receiving it. “At that time, it was only mentioned that Vijay would attend. The TVK conference, where the power-sharing offer was made, was not scheduled at that time,” he clarified, referencing a report by Maalaimalar.
The VCK leader further reiterated that there is no reason for his party to shift alliances from the DMK-led coalition in Tamil Nadu or the INDIA bloc at the national level. “Attending a book release does not mean we would automatically change our political alignment,” he added, dismissing speculation of a potential political realignment.
This event on December 6, marking Ambedkar’s death anniversary, is expected to draw attention due to the confluence of key political figures and the backdrop of recent developments in Tamil Nadu’s political landscape.
