Prominent leaders, including Union Minister L Murugan, BJP state president K Annamalai, and actor-turned-politician Vijay, have condemned the ruling DMK government after a government doctor was attacked in broad daylight at a Chennai hospital. The incident has sparked widespread concern and criticism over the safety of medical professionals and public safety under the current administration.Union Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting and Parliamentary Affairs L Murugan did not hold back in his critique, stating that āevery incident in Tamil Nadu proves that the State is ruled by the āfakeā Dravidian Model government.ā He emphasized that the attack on a doctor in a government facility has alarmed the public and highlighted a lack of safety assurances for doctors in the State. Murugan also pointed out other similar violent episodes across Tamil Nadu and accused the DMK government of focusing more on publicity and less on governance. āThere is a situation in TN where no oneās life is safe, be it doctors, government employees, farmers, or traders,ā he said, urging the state government to ensure the safety of doctors and public servants.
BJP state president and former IPS officer Annamalai expressed his shock at the incident and extended his prayers for the doctorās swift recovery. He criticized the ruling government for its inaction, stating, āDespite repeated violent acts against doctors, nurses, and hospital staff, the DMK government has consistently failed to implement concrete preventive measures, leaving medical personnel vulnerable.ā He noted that frequent attacks have fostered fear among medical professionals and accused Chief Minister Stalin of giving a ātemplate answerā each time such incidents occurred without taking meaningful preventive measures.
Actor and political leader Vijay also voiced his concern, attributing the attack to the negligence of the Stalin-led government. He remarked that it is alarming when the life of a doctor in a super-specialty hospital providing critical care is jeopardized. āThe State government must wake up and take all legal measures to ensure the safety of all doctors and take measures to protect the people of the State,ā Vijay said.
The incident has fueled discussions about the need for stronger protective measures for healthcare workers and improved public safety in Tamil Nadu. The calls for action from leaders across different fields underline the urgent need for administrative reforms to prevent future occurrences of violence against medical and public service staff.
