The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted heavy rainfall in parts of North Tamil Nadu and surrounding regions until November 16 due to weather disturbances over the Bay of Bengal and the Arabian Sea.
The IMD reported on Wednesday that a low-pressure area that formed over the southwest and adjacent west-central Bay of Bengal off the North Tamil Nadu and South Andhra Pradesh coasts has weakened. However, an associated upper air cyclonic circulation persists over the southwest Bay of Bengal near North Tamil Nadu at lower tropospheric levels. Additionally, another upper air cyclonic circulation has been identified over the southeast Arabian Sea off the Kerala coast at similar altitudes.
Heavy rainfall is expected in isolated areas of North Tamil Nadu until November 16 due to these weather conditions. Coastal Andhra Pradesh is anticipated to receive rainfall on November 14, while Kerala is expected to see rain continuing until November 17. South Interior Karnataka is predicted to experience rainfall on November 14 and 15.
The IMD has issued warnings of light to moderate rain, accompanied by isolated thunderstorms and lightning, over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, and Rayalaseema through November 16.
Heavy Rainfall Alerts for Nov 15: Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam, Mayiladuthurai, Pudukkottai, Dindigul, Theni, Madurai, Virudhunagar, Tenkasi, Thoothukudi, Tirunelveli, Kanyakumari, Ramanathapuram, Sivaganga, Nilgiris, Coimbatore, and Tiruppur districts, along with Karaikal, are expected to see heavy rain.
Heavy Rainfall Alerts for Nov 16:
Isolated heavy rainfall is forecasted for Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Tiruppur, Theni, and Dindigul districts.
