The Enforcement Directorate (ED) conducted extensive raids on Thursday, November 14, targeting multiple properties linked to VCK deputy general secretary Aadhav Arjuna and his father-in-law, millionaire businessman Santiago Martin, popularly known as the ‘lottery king’. The raids began early in the morning around 6 am and continued for over five hours. The ED teams, accompanied by CRPF officers, are reportedly searching offices and residences in both Chennai and Coimbatore. One of the key locations under scrutiny is Aadhav Arjuna’s high-profile apartment situated in Poes Garden, a notable area in Chennai’s JJ Salai, where six ED officials are overseeing the search operations.
Martin, who has previously been implicated in various investigations by central agencies including the ED and Income Tax Department, is known for his controversial business ventures and faces multiple cases related to alleged financial improprieties. His association with large-scale lottery operations has kept him in the spotlight for years.
Aadhav Arjuna, although a national-level basketball player, rose swiftly in Tamil Nadu’s political scene after joining the VCK. His rapid ascent within the party led to him securing the position of deputy general secretary. Recently, he drew attention for his bold political stance by openly criticizing the ruling DMK and its leadership, followed by his public endorsement of actor Vijay’s new political party, TVK. This move sparked discussions and raised eyebrows across the political spectrum.
Arjuna’s latest high-profile activity was attempting to bridge VCK president Thol Thirumavalavan and Vijay, aligning them on the same platform during the launch of his authored book. This endeavor stirred coalition tensions within the DMK-led INDIA bloc in Tamil Nadu.
The ongoing raids by the ED are expected to delve deeper into financial transactions and connections between Aadhav Arjuna, Santiago Martin, and associated businesses, potentially impacting both their public and political standings. Further updates and official statements are awaited as investigations progress.
