AIADMK leader Velumani meets BJP’s Nainar Nagendran

The political circles in Tamil Nadu have been abuzz following a meeting between Nainar Nagendran, the vice president of the Tamil Nadu BJP, and former AIADMK minister Velumani at the latter’s residence. This meeting has raised several questions in the wake of AIADMK’s recent political decisions.
Before the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, AIADMK officially severed its ties with the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA). AIADMK General Secretary O. Panneerselvam announced that the party would no longer align with the BJP in any future elections. This was followed by a resolution passed at the party’s district secretaries’ meeting, solidifying their stance.
In the Lok Sabha elections, AIADMK contested in alliance with the DMDK (Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam) and the New Tamil Nadu Party. However, there appears to be a growing divide within both parties regarding future alliances.
Within the BJP, one faction favors renewing the alliance with AIADMK, while another opposes it. Similarly, within AIADMK, there is a section that supports resuming ties with the BJP, while some, including Panneerselvam and BJP’s Tamil Nadu chief K. Annamalai, are opposed to this. This division has led to the emergence of two factions within both parties, with differing views on the alliance.
It was reported that Panneerselvam had differences with AIADMK leaders and expressed support for a BJP alliance. Against this backdrop, the recent meeting between Velumani and Nainar Nagendran has sparked curiosity. According to reports, the two leaders discussed the current political situation.
Panneerselvam’s public declaration that AIADMK will not align with the BJP, combined with Velumani’s meeting with Nagendran, has created a stir in AIADMK circles. The meeting has raised several questions about potential political shifts and alliances. Both parties have refrained from commenting on the matter, leaving the political landscape in suspense.
As the 2024 Lok Sabha elections approach, the evolving dynamics within these two major political parties in Tamil Nadu continue to attract attention.
