Due to heavy rains, schools in Chengalpattu, Tiruvallur, and Chennai have been declared closed today (Nov. 29).

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted very heavy rainfall in Tamil Nadu owing to a deep depression over the Bay of Bengal. A red alert has been issued for six districts, including Chengalpattu, Villupuram, Cuddalore, Mayiladuthurai, Nagapattinam, and Tiruvarur, along with Puducherry and Karaikal.

As a precautionary measure, schools and colleges in Cuddalore and Villupuram districts have been given a holiday today.

In Chennai, heavy rains have been pouring since last night, with no sign of relief. Due to persistent rains in various parts of the city, schools in Chengalpattu, Tiruvallur, and Chennai remain closed today.

Additionally, Puducherry and Karaikal have declared holidays for schools and colleges today and tomorrow, as announced by the Education Minister Namachivayam.
