In light of continuous rainfall, schools in 20 districts across Tamil Nadu, including Chennai, Villupuram, Mayiladuthurai, Thanjavur, Pudukottai, Dindigul, and Ramanathapuram, have been declared closed today (December 12).

The Regional Meteorological Department has reported that a low-pressure area persists over the southeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining east-central Indian Ocean near the equatorial region. This system, which is yet to intensify into a deep depression, has caused delays in its expected progression.

Due to this weather system, several districts in Tamil Nadu are likely to experience heavy rainfall over the next four days. The Meteorological Department had issued a warning about the potential for heavy to very heavy rainfall in various parts of the state, prompting authorities to announce holidays for educational institutions in the affected areas.

Districts where schools are closed include Chennai, Villupuram, Mayiladuthurai, Thanjavur (both schools and colleges), Pudukottai, Cuddalore, Dindigul, Ramanathapuram, and Kanchipuram.

Authorities are closely monitoring the weather situation and have urged residents to stay cautious amidst the heavy rainfall forecast.
