Chennai: Continuous heavy rainfall has led to a significant rise in water levels at both the Chembaramakkam Reservoir and Sathanur Dam. Authorities have issued warnings and are closely monitoring the situation.
At Sathanur Dam, which has a total height of 119 feet, the water level has risen to 117.50 feet. The dam is currently receiving an inflow of 2,500 cubic feet per second (cusecs) and releasing 10,000 cusecs of water. Officials have announced that water discharge will be gradually increased based on the inflow, cautioning residents living near the Thenpennai River to remain vigilant.
Meanwhile, the Chembaramakkam Reservoir is rapidly nearing full capacity. With a total height of 24 feet, the water level has now reached 21.18 feet. The reservoir has a total storage capacity of 3,645 million cubic feet, and current inflows are recorded at 713 cusecs, while 134 cusecs of water are being discharged.
Authorities have urged people in low-lying areas and along riverbanks to take precautions as water discharge continues. The public has also been advised to remain alert to further updates from the revenue department.
