Chennai, Aug 1:
DMK president M.K. Stalin on Friday said the party’s initiative of accepting books instead of shawls and bouquets as gifts has led to the donation of around six lakh books to libraries across Tamil Nadu and other parts of the country.
In a statement, Stalin recalled that the books received through the initiative have been systematically distributed to public libraries in the State as well as in other regions, promoting reading habits and strengthening library resources.
The initiative, introduced to encourage meaningful gifting and knowledge sharing, has gained steady support from party workers and the public over the years.
The development comes amid recent political attention following the arrest of DMK MLA G.V. Markandeyan in a criminal case. Leader of the Opposition Udhayanidhi Stalin had recently visited the MLA at the Palayamkottai prison.
