Police security has been heightened at the residence of Naam Tamilar Katchi’s (NTK) Chief Coordinator Seeman after a group of E.V. Ramasamy (Periyar) supporters announced plans to lay siege to his house.Seeman has been vocally criticizing Periyar in recent days, drawing backlash from DMK and other political parties, while leaders from the BJP have extended their support to him.
On January 16, members of the Thanthai Periyar Dravidar Kazhagam attempted to march to Seeman’s house in Neelangarai, demanding evidence for his claims about controversial remarks attributed to Periyar on gender relations. The protestors were stopped by the police, but during the commotion, a car belonging to NTK administrator Sasikumar was damaged when protestors allegedly hurled stones at it.
Twenty-four individuals, including three women, were detained during the incident but were released later that evening.
Supporters of Periyar have now announced plans for state-wide protests against Seeman. Using social media platforms for coordination, they have organized a mass gathering to lay siege to his residence on January 22.
In response to this announcement, the police have deployed security personnel in shifts to guard Seeman’s residence, ensuring his safety and preventing any untoward incidents.
Authorities are closely monitoring the situation as tensions remain high between the two factions.
