The process of filing nominations for the Erode East Assembly bypoll comes to an end today. The bypoll, necessitated by the demise of Congress MLA EVKS Elangovan, is set to take place on February 5, with counting scheduled for February 8.The DMK, contesting on behalf of the INDIA alliance, has fielded former MLA Chandrakumar as its candidate. Meanwhile, the Naam Tamilar Katchi (NTK) has announced Seethalakshmi as their nominee. Both candidates are expected to submit their nomination papers today.
Notably, major opposition parties, including the AIADMK, BJP, and DMDK, have decided to boycott the election, citing various reasons. This development has made the contest largely one-sided, with the DMK poised to face limited electoral competition.
The Erode East bypoll has drawn significant attention, not only for its political implications but also for being a key test of unity for the INDIA alliance ahead of upcoming elections.
