Leader of the Opposition and AIADMK chief Edappadi K. Palaniswami (EPS) has urged the Tamil Nadu government to transfer the Anna University sexual harassment case to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).In a statement, EPS questioned the necessity of summoning journalists for investigation and confiscating their phones, as reported in the media. He criticized the state government for allegedly attempting to divert attention towards journalists instead of addressing the actual issue, stating that the FIR leak was entirely the administrationās fault.
While the case is currently being handled by a Special Investigation Team (SIT) appointed by the High Court, EPS expressed concerns over potential government influence on the probe since Tamil Nadu officials are involved. He raised suspicions about possible pressure from the ruling DMK government, calling into question the transparency of the investigation.
Referring to the mysterious “SIR” mentioned in the case, EPS insisted that only an independent CBI investigation could ensure justice for the survivor. “To uncover the identity of ‘SIR’ and deliver justice, the case must be immediately transferred to the CBI,” he demanded.
