Union Minister L. Murugan has strongly condemned the alleged anti-Hindu activities of the ruling DMK and its allies, asserting that the people will deliver a fitting response in the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections.
In a statement, Murugan highlighted ongoing efforts by certain groups to rename Madurai’s Thiruparankundram hill, which is considered sacred in Hindu tradition, as “Sikandar Malai.” He pointed out that the Kasi Viswanathar Temple is located in the area and that, as per long-standing tradition, devotees carry the Vel (spear) from Palani Murugan Temple to this shrine.
Recently, a controversy erupted when some individuals attempted to perform animal sacrifice at the temple, leading to a major dispute. Murugan alleged that under the DMK government’s rule, Hindu traditions and sentiments were being disregarded. He further claimed that devotees and Hindu organizations, who are trying to protect the sanctity of Thiruparankundram, are being harassed and arrested by the state police.
Murugan criticized the Tamil Nadu police for allegedly failing to take action against those who painted Jain caves in green near Thiruparankundram or those consuming non-vegetarian food in the sacred area. However, he accused the police of suppressing Hindu activists who are peacefully protesting to protect the sanctity of the site.
The Hindu Munnani organization has planned a protest on February 4 to highlight their concerns. Murugan condemned the state’s alleged attempts to suppress the demonstration by arresting people distributing pamphlets and pasting posters about the event.
L. Murugan demanded that Chief Minister M.K. Stalin and the Tamil Nadu government respond to these allegations, stating that their actions reflect the anti-Hindu stance of the Dravidian Model alliance. He warned that the voters of Tamil Nadu will teach them a lesson in the 2026 elections.
