Erode East By-Election: DMK Leads by 10,000 Votes in Early Rounds


Erode: The counting of votes for the Erode East by-election began this morning (February 8) at 8 AM. As per the results after the second round, the DMK candidate has secured 11,140 votes, maintaining a strong lead. Meanwhile, the Naam Tamilar Katchi (NTK) candidate has received 1,081 votes so far.

The by-election in Erode East was necessitated due to the passing of Congress MLA Elangovan. Notably, major opposition parties, including the AIADMK, BJP, and DMDK, decided to boycott the election. The DMK fielded V.C. Chandrakumar as its candidate, aiming to retain the seat previously held by the Congress. A total of 46 candidates, including NTK’s Seethalakshmi and several independents, contested in the election.

Voting took place peacefully on February 5, with a significant turnout recorded. As counting progresses, the DMK remains confident of securing victory in this closely watched by-election. Stay tuned for further updates.
