Tamil Nadu BJP president K. Annamalai on Friday launched a sharp attack on the DMK government, holding Chief Minister M.K. Stalin responsible for the alleged rise in sexual assaults against women in the State. He questioned whether the CM was indifferent to the growing threat to women’s safety.Referring to media reports about the sexual harassment of a Grade IV student by school staff in Manapparai and the sexual assault of a four-month pregnant woman who was pushed out of a moving express train near Vellore, Annamalai said that such incidents were becoming alarmingly frequent.
“Even before people could recover from the shock of a Class VIII girl being abused by three teachers in Krishnagiri, more disturbing crimes against women have come to light,” he said.
Highlighting multiple recent cases, Annamalai cited reports of a government school physical education teacher in Salem allegedly harassing a student and the murder of the panchayat vice president’s wife in Tirupattur. “There has been a flurry of reports about sexual assaults against women in Tamil Nadu. This is deeply concerning,” he remarked.
The BJP leader’s statement comes amid increasing concerns over women’s safety in the State, with critics accusing the DMK government of failing to take effective action.
