Delimitation: Stalin calls for all-party meet March 5

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin has announced that an all-party meeting will be held on March 5 to discuss the potential reduction in the number of parliamentary constituencies in the state due to constituency delimitation based on population.

“If constituencies are allocated purely based on population, Tamil Nadu is likely to lose up to eight parliamentary seats. This is a matter of serious concern, and we need to discuss the issue collectively,” the Chief Minister stated.

The meeting is expected to see participation from representatives of all major political parties in Tamil Nadu, where they will deliberate on the implications of the proposed delimitation.

The redistribution of parliamentary constituencies is being considered at the national level, and states with slower population growth, like Tamil Nadu, could see a reduction in their representation in the Lok Sabha. This has raised concerns among political leaders, who argue that states that have successfully implemented population control measures should not be penalized.

With the 2026 delimitation exercise drawing closer, the Tamil Nadu government is keen to build a strong consensus on the issue and take necessary steps to safeguard the state’s political representation in Parliament.
