TN ready for another language war: CM

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin on Tuesday reaffirmed his strong opposition to the trilingual policy imposed by the BJP-led Union government, declaring that the state was prepared for another language war if pushed into one.
Responding to reporters’ questions on whether the Union government’s insistence on implementing the National Education Policy (NEP) and its mandatory three-language formula was provoking a fresh linguistic battle, Stalin stated, “Certainly. They are pushing. We are ready for it.”
The Chief Minister also confirmed that the upcoming all-party meeting on March 5 would address multiple concerns, including the trilingual policy, the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) issue, and pending financial dues from the Union government. He emphasized that Tamil Nadu would continue to oppose any imposition of Hindi or other languages that undermine the state’s long-standing two-language policy.
When asked about the response to his letters to the Union government opposing the language policy, Stalin remarked, “We did not receive any reply for it.” His statement underscores the ongoing tensions between the Tamil Nadu government and the Centre regarding language and education policies.
Regarding the possibility of Tamil Nadu’s principal opposition party, AIADMK, joining the fight against the trilingual policy, Stalin expressed confidence that they, too, would voice their concerns on the matter. His remarks suggest that linguistic identity and opposition to language imposition remain key unifying issues in Tamil Nadu politics.
As the debate over language policies intensifies, the Tamil Nadu government appears firm in its stance, signaling a possible confrontation with the Union government over the imposition of the trilingual policy in the state.
