A special meeting will be held in Delhi within the next two weeks to discuss and finalize the in-principle approval for the proposed Parandur Greenfield Airport, said Union Civil Aviation Minister Kinjarapu Ram Mohan Naidu on Thursday.Speaking to reporters after inaugurating the Udan Yatri CafĂ© at Chennai Airport, Minister Naidu confirmed that the Union government has already granted site clearance for the Parandur airport, which is set to be Chennaiâs second airport. He added that the remaining approval processes were progressing steadily.
âThe in-principle approval for Parandur airport is under consideration, and we are following the due process. A special meeting in Delhi will be held within the next one or two weeks to finalize this approval,â the minister stated. Once this step is completed, the project will move forward toward implementation.
When asked about other proposed airports in Tamil Nadu, including the Hosur airport, Minister Naidu clarified that the Tamil Nadu government is responsible for identifying and proposing sites for new airports.
âThe State government must identify suitable locations and send proposals to the Airports Authority of India (AAI) for clearance. We do not dictate where airports should be built. Once the State submits a proposal, we assess feasibility, including technical, operational, and navigational aspects,â he explained.
With the upcoming meeting expected to clear the in-principle approval, the Parandur Greenfield Airport project is set to take a significant step forward in addressing Chennaiâs growing aviation needs.
