The Tamil Nadu Assembly witnessed intense discussions on the need for a caste census and survey to uphold social justice and the state’s 69% reservation. Ministers S.S. Sivasankar and Siva V. Meyyanathan criticized the Union Government for not conducting the census and urged BJP allies to raise the issue in the Rajya Sabha.
PMK leader G.K. Mani emphasized Tamil Nadu’s legacy of social justice and argued that caste data is essential for its continuation. Citing Karnataka and Telangana as examples, he asserted that there were no legal hurdles for Tamil Nadu to conduct a caste survey. Tamilaga Vazhvurimai Kazhagam’s T. Velmurugan also reiterated the demand.
