Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin dismissed AIADMK leader Edappadi K. Palaniswami’s claims of rising violent crimes, stating that incidents were being exaggerated on social media.
In response to AIADMK’s motion citing four murders in a day, Stalin clarified that one was a suicide, another a family dispute, and the rest were under investigation. He assured that the police act without bias and highlighted a significant drop in crime, with attempted murders falling from 49,220 in 2023 to 31,000 in 2024. The state’s murder rate also saw a 6.8% decline, recording the lowest figures in 12 years.
Drawing a parallel between the number of murders recorded in the previous AIADMK and the present DMK regime, the Chief Minister said that a comparison of the year-wise murder data between 2012 and 2024 suggested that it was during the previous regime in 2012 that the maximum number of murders (1,943 murders) were recorded in a year.
