Union Minister of State L Murugan has strongly criticised the DMK-led Tamil Nadu government for refusing to acknowledge the Tamil month of Chithirai as the legitimate beginning of the Tamil New Year. In his Tamil New Year message on Sunday, he said the tradition has both historical and scientific backing and should be respected.āAs we enter the year of Sri Visvavasu, I extend my heartfelt wishes to Tamils across the world. May this year bring prosperity, good health, and happiness to all,ā Murugan said. He praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s efforts to promote Tamil culture globally, highlighting the establishment of Tamil language chairs in international universities and the recognition of classics like the Thirukkural on world platforms.
Murugan accused the DMK of promoting a “fake Dravidian model” by continuously distancing itself from traditional Tamil values. āThe ruling government continues to deny Tamil heritage and traditions for political convenience. The day is not far when the people of Tamil Nadu will reject this regressive mindset,ā he said. He urged the public to take a pledge to protect and promote Tamil identity, culture, and values in the coming year.
