DMK defends swift justice record amid Oppn criticism

DMK Organising Secretary R.S. Bharathi responded to allegations from Leader of Opposition Edappadi K. Palaniswami regarding law and order in Tamil Nadu. Bharathi criticized Palaniswami’s tenure, citing a lower Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) growth rate of 3.25% in 2019–20 compared to 9.69% in 2024–25 under Chief Minister M.K. Stalin. He accused Palaniswami of politicizing a recent incident involving a police officer from Avadi, emphasizing that the officer was promptly arrested. Bharathi contrasted this with the delayed response during the Pollachi sexual assault case under the previous AIADMK government. He also referenced other incidents, such as the Nirmala Devi case and the Villivakkam incident, to highlight alleged shortcomings in women’s safety during the AIADMK regime. Bharathi asserted that the current DMK government ensures immediate action against crimes, regardless of the perpetrator’s identity.
