A private bar located on the ground floor of the Airport Metro station in Chennai caught fire on Monday due to an electrical short circuit, triggering panic among passersby as thick smoke engulfed the area.The incident, which occurred during operational hours, prompted a swift response from the Tamil Nadu Fire and Rescue Services. Personnel from the Tambaram unit rushed to the scene and managed to control the smoke and extinguish the fire within a few minutes, preventing any escalation.
Initial investigations by the police revealed that the fire was caused by a fault in the electrical wiring inside the bar. The defect was rectified soon after the fire was brought under control.
Fortunately, there were no injuries or casualties reported in the incident. Authorities confirmed that Metro Rail services remained unaffected, and normal operations continued without disruption.
The police have registered a case and are conducting further inquiries into the incident. Safety inspections are expected to follow to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
