The ruling DMK held its General Council meeting on Sunday in Madurai. The party passed 27 key resolutions at the event, attended by over 10,000 members, including Chief Minister MK Stalin, ministers, MPs, MLAs, and senior leaders.

One major resolution condemned the Union Government for not giving Tamil Nadu its fair share of funds. Another resolution called for ensuring DMK’s victory in the 2026 Assembly elections and re-electing MK Stalin as Chief Minister.

The party also declared June 3, the birthday of former leader Karunanidhi, as “Classical Tamil Day.” It praised Stalin for improving women’s lives and urged party members to spread the word about the government’s achievements.

The meeting was held on a 90-acre ground in Uthangudi, Madurai. This was the first DMK General Council meeting in Madurai in 47 years, highlighting the party’s focus on the southern region.

DMK also added two new wings — one for the differently abled and one for academics — taking the total number of internal party wings to 25.

A major political controversy has erupted in Tamil Nadu after police uncovered an alleged attempt to lure MLAs to switch sides, with investigators pointing to a “Karur gang” as being at the center of the operation. The case came to light following a complaint that Uthangarai TVK MLA Ilaiyaraja from Krishnagiri district was repeatedly threatened and offered inducements to defect to another party. Based on this complaint, Triplicane police in Chennai arrested YouTuber Thirunavukkarasu, who was accused of acting as an intermediary in the alleged deal.
