Rameswaram fishermen were attacked by the Sri Lankan Navy after going to sea, reports say. The fishermen had set out after the fishing ban ended on June 14.At first, officials asked them to wait due to bad weather. Later, as winds slowed, over 700 fishermen on 105 boats left from Pamban port with permission.
They caught 2 to 3 tons of fish. But the Sri Lankan Navy reportedly stopped them, took their catch, and attacked some fishermen.
Each boat may have lost up to Rs 2 lakh. The incident has left the fishing community in fear and shock.
