Director Venkat Prabhu has officially confirmed that a sequel to the blockbuster film Maanaadu is on the way. The original, which released in 2021, starred Silambarasan TR (Simbu) in the lead and received both critical acclaim and commercial success for its innovative time-loop concept.Speaking to the media, Venkat Prabhu said, “Yes, Maanaadu 2 is definitely happening. The idea is strong, and Simbu is equally excited about taking this journey forward. Weâll start once I complete my current project.”
While he did not disclose the title of his current project, fans are already speculating that Maanaadu 2 could surpass the original in terms of scale and complexity.
Maanaadu featured Simbu as Abdul Khaliq, a man caught in a politically charged time loop. The film also starred S. J. Suryah, whose compelling performance as the antagonist was widely praised. The screenplay’s smart structure and Yuvan Shankar Rajaâs gripping score played a major role in the filmâs success.
