The long-awaited flyover at Singaperumal Koil on the busy Chennai–Tiruchy National Highway was fully inaugurated on Sunday evening, bringing much-needed relief to motorists who have endured years of traffic congestion in the area.
Constructed at a cost of ₹138.27 crore, the flyover connects GST Road (Chennai–Tiruchy NH) with the Singaperumal Koil–Oragadam Highway. This crucial link is expected to significantly ease daily travel for people commuting to industrial hubs like Oragadam and Sriperumbudur, and for residents from over 25 nearby villages including Appur and Thirukkachur.
The project was originally proposed in 2008 but saw prolonged delays, particularly after the railway overbridge section was completed back in 2011. The road connectivity work was stalled for years and only resumed in 2021. Now, with the final phase completed and opened, motorists can avoid the railway level crossing, cutting down on detours and reducing travel time.
The official inauguration was carried out by District Collector Sneha and MSME Minister T.M. Anbarasan. Their presence marked the completion of the long-pending infrastructure project, which is now fully operational.
Key Benefits of the Flyover:
Motorists no longer need to wait at the railway gate, ending years of long traffic queues.
Travel to Chengalpattu and southern districts becomes faster and smoother.
The flyover provides a vital link between industrial zones and rural areas, boosting connectivity and local development.
The opening of the Singaperumal Koil flyover is seen as a major step in improving road infrastructure and easing urban traffic flow in the southern part of the Chennai metropolitan region.
