Namakkal, July 4: To increase student participation in sports, the Tamil Nadu School Education Department has issued fresh instructions to physical education teachers across the state. The aim is to prepare and send more students from government schools to compete at district, state, and national levels.
A consultative meeting was recently held at the Namakkal Government Higher Secondary School auditorium under the leadership of District Principal Education Officer Maheswari. Physical education inspectors and teachers from government, private, and self-financing schools attended the session.
Special guests Mr. R. Vimalnishant and Mr. N. Prabhu from Kumarapalayam Excel Institute also took part in the meeting. District Physical Education Head Gandhimathi delivered a key address highlighting the importance of training students in various sports disciplines.
It was advised that schools should organize separate sports events for boys and girls on specific dates. Teachers were also instructed to train students for participation in state, national, and district-level tournaments.
The officials recalled that in 2024, about 150 students from Namakkal district took part in such competitions and won several prizes. The department now aims to increase that number in the current academic year.
The meeting stressed the need for early preparation, proper coaching, and regular events to help identify and support talented young athletes.
