A modern council hall with advanced facilities and a seating capacity for 300 members will soon be constructed at the historic Ripon Building, the headquarters of the Greater Chennai Corporation.
The project is estimated to cost ₹77.25 crore and will be located behind Amma Maligai, where old structures will be demolished to make way for the new facility. Officials said the new hall will blend in with the existing heritage architecture of the iconic Ripon Building.
The construction is expected to be completed within 24 months.
As part of the new complex, a statue of former Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi will also be installed to honour his contributions to the city and state.
The upgraded council hall aims to provide a better environment for civic discussions and decision-making in India’s oldest municipal body.
