After years of delay, work has finally resumed on the much-anticipated foot overbridge project at the Pachaiahman Temple Railway Gate (LC-14), located between Koyambedu and Parangimalai railway stations. The project, aimed at enhancing commuter safety and convenience, had been stalled since 2017.The foot overbridge and underground pedestrian path are being constructed with a budget of ₹2.5 crore. Once completed, the facility will replace the existing level crossing, which has long posed safety risks for pedestrians and caused extended detours for residents in the surrounding areas.
This infrastructure project is expected to benefit residents of Koyambedu, Alandur, and Adambakkam by offering a safer and more direct passage across the railway track. The new footpath will not only reduce travel time for pedestrians but also eliminate the dangers associated with the current crossing.
The revival of construction marks a positive step toward addressing long-standing civic infrastructure issues and improving connectivity in one of the city’s busy neighborhoods. Local authorities and residents have welcomed the resumption and expressed hope for its speedy completion.
