Four old bus stations in Chennai will get a new look. These are Ayanavaram, Thiruverkadu, Kannagi Nagar, and MMDA Colony. The Metropolitan Transport Corporation (MTC) is leading this project. It is part of a bigger plan by the state government, costing Rs 7.5 crore, to update six MTC bus stations. The goal is to make them modern and better for passengers.Currently, these bus stations are in poor condition. They lack good seating, proper timekeeper rooms, and clean toilets for both passengers and bus staff.
The planned improvements include:
New tensile fabric roofs instead of old asbestos shelters, Better seating arrangements, Renovated timekeeper rooms and Improved toilet and restroom facilities.
Also, a new system will be put in place after the renovation to show bus arrival and departure times. Residents have asked for these updates for a long time. They hope for better amenities like proper seating, restrooms, drinking water, and mobile charging points.
