The Madras High Court has stopped the ruling DMK’s “Oraniyil Tamil Nadu” campaign from using OTP (One-Time Password) verification. This decision was made because of serious worries about privacy, responsibility, and how public data would be used.Rajkumar from Tiruppuvanam filed a case asking the court to declare the DMK’s collection of Aadhaar details for political reasons as illegal and a breach of privacy. During the court hearing, judges questioned why party members were asking for OTPs when police warn people not to share such details.
The court said that digital membership drives by political parties are new. It stated that more clarity is needed on how public data is collected, processed, and stored. Because of this, the court issued a temporary order. This order stops the DMK from sending OTP verification messages until issues of privacy rights and data protection are fully reviewed.
