Vellore, July 23: Senior DMK leader and Tamil Nadu Minister Duraimurugan took a swipe at AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami, mocking his recent public call for opposition unity. Speaking at a DMK event in Vellore, Duraimurugan said Palaniswami was like a shopkeeper calling for customers, but no one is entering his shop. The remark was in response to Palaniswami’s appeal for anti-DMK parties to join forces under the AIADMK banner. Duraimurugan noted that despite the call, none of the opposition parties seemed willing to respond or align with Palaniswami.
His comments come at a time when Tamil Nadu’s political landscape is heating up ahead of the 2026 assembly elections. The DMK, which leads the ruling alliance in the state, continues to counter any attempts at opposition unity, while the AIADMK is trying to regroup and expand its reach following past electoral setbacks.
