Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin has announced the establishment of a new museum in honor of the great emperor Rajendra Chola. The museum will be built on a 10-acre plot in Gangaikondacholapuram, Ariyalur district, at a cost of ₹22.10 crore. The initiative aims to honor the emperor’s legacy and tell his story to the world.
The announcement was made during the Aadi Thiruvathirai festival, which marks Rajendra Chola’s birth anniversary and also commemorates the 1000th year of his victory in Southeast Asian countries, including Kadaram.
In addition to the museum, the government has announced a comprehensive development plan for the historic Ponneri (also known as Solaganga lake), which was created by Rajendra Chola. The plan includes:
 * Lake Improvement: The lake will be enhanced at a cost of ₹12 crore. This work will involve strengthening the lake’s banks, renovating canals, and desilting four drainage areas, which is expected to benefit 1,374 acres of agricultural land in six villages.
 * Tourism Development: The Solaganga lake area will also be transformed into a tourist destination with an investment of ₹7.25 crore. The project includes building a communication center, walkways, a children’s play area, a park, and installing security cameras and other facilities.
The Tamil Nadu government has been celebrating the emperor’s Aadi Thiruvathirai festival as a state event since 2021.
