A court in Kanchipuram has sentenced a woman named Abhirami and her lover Sundaram to life in prison for murdering her two children.
Abhirami, who lived in Kundrathur, was married to Vijay, a private bank employee. The couple had two children – Ajay, aged 6, and Karnika, aged 4. While being married, Abhirami developed an affair with Sundaram, a worker at a biryani shop. The two got to know each other through TikTok.
In 2018, Abhirami and Sundaram planned to kill her husband and children so they could live together. Abhirami gave her children milk mixed with poison. Both children died, but her husband survived.
After the incident, Vijay filed a police complaint. A search was launched, and the police arrested Abhirami and Sundaram while they were trying to escape from the Koyambedu bus stand. Both were sent to Puzhal prison.
After several years of trial, the court has now found them guilty and sentenced them to life imprisonment.
The case shocked the community and serves as a grim reminder of how dangerous secret relationships can become.
