The Tamil Maanila Congress (Moopanar), led by G.K. Vasan, has appealed to all political parties in Tamil Nadu to extend their support to C.P. Radhakrishnan, the NDA’s nominee for the upcoming Vice-Presidential election.Vasan described Radhakrishnan’s nomination as an honour for Tamil Nadu. He pointed out Radhakrishnan’s long political career as BJP state president, Member of Parliament, Coir Board chairman and Governor, saying he had always carried himself with dignity. “On behalf of the Tamil Maanila Congress, I request all parties to back him so that he can bring recognition to the state,” Vasan said.
The call comes at a time when several national and regional parties, including the AIADMK and YSR Congress, have expressed support for Radhakrishnan. The DMK, however, is weighing options within the INDIA bloc, with some voices seeking a Tamil Nadu candidate from the opposition as well.
The Vice-Presidential election is scheduled for September 9, and Radhakrishnan’s nomination is seen as significant for the BJP’s efforts to strengthen its base in Tamil Nadu.
