Director Sudheesh Shankar’s latest film, “Maareesan”, starring Fahadh Faasil and Vadivelu, is set to premiere on Netflix on August 22. Fahadh plays Dayal, a thief who devises a plan to profit from his elderly travelling companion, Velayudhan (Vadivelu), who suffers from Alzheimer’s. The title draws inspiration from Mareecha, the Ramayana character who transformed into a golden deer to lure Sita.The film has been praised for its unique blend of humour and depth. Actor-politician Kamal Haasan lauded it on X, noting how the film uses comedy to explore human emotions and the darker aspects of society. Produced by R B Chaudhary’s Super Good Films, “Maareesan” earned Rs 9 crore worldwide, according to Daily Thanthi.
The story, screenplay, and dialogues were penned by V Krishnamurthi, who also served as the film’s creative director. Cinematography was handled by Kalaiselvan Sivaji, editing by Sreejith Sarang, art direction by Mahendran, and music composed by Yuvan Shankar Raja. The film promises an engaging mix of wit, emotion, and social commentary for audiences when it streams on Netflix.
