BJP Minority Wing National Secretary Vellore Ibrahim accused the DMK government of disrespecting Hindu beliefs under its “Dravidian model” of governance. Speaking at Singampunari in Sivaganga district, he alleged that the state government has been creating tension around Hindu festivals like Vinayagar Chaturthi.
“During Vinayagar Chaturthi processions, the government deploys heavy police presence, creating unnecessary fear, especially among Muslims,” Ibrahim said. He criticised Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin and Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) chief Thol. Thirumavalavan, accusing them of insulting their own religion while appearing to appease others.
“True communal harmony is when one stays firm in their own faith and respects all others. The Ganesh idol procession is a unifying event for Hindus and a symbol of their resurgence. It is not against any other religion. This is both a festival and an assertion of Hindu identity,” he stated.
Ibrahim also expressed concern over declining Hindu population numbers due to religious conversions. “Hindus fear losing their only homeland, Bharat. That is why festivals like these are important to unite the community,” he said, adding that Hindus do not oppose festivals of other religions.
“However, it is unacceptable to single out Hindus and say they cannot celebrate their traditions,” he stressed.
Ibrahim praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, claiming he runs a government for all communities. He accused the DMK of spreading hatred against Modi and the BJP for electoral gains among Christian and Muslim voters.
“RSS is a movement that represents the voice of all Indians. Chief Minister Stalin and Thirumavalavan should understand and follow the principles of the RSS,” Ibrahim said.
