In a recent letter to his long-time confidante and MDMK chief Vaiko, senior party leader Mallai Sathya has questioned whether Vaiko has thrown away 32 years of hard work. The letter follows a period of public tension between the two leaders, primarily stemming from Vaiko’s decision to anoint his son, Durai Vaiko, as the next party leader.Sathya, who has been with Vaiko for over three decades, has publicly opposed the move, accusing Vaiko of sacrificing his loyal followers for his son’s political career. He has also expressed deep anguish at being labeled a “betrayer” by Vaiko.
The conflict highlights a significant internal struggle within the MDMK, a party that has seen a decline in its political fortunes over the years. The rift between the two leaders, who have been close since the party’s formation, has brought to the forefront the challenges of political succession and the loyalty of long-term party workers.
